TECHNICAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GITOPIA AND GITHUB

Gitopia is a blockchain-based code collaboration platform with an interactive token economy. Gitopia’s goal is to establish a new paradigm for open source development and decentralized collaboration, one in which innovators are rewarded, contributors are driven, and stakeholders have control over platform policies.

GitHub and other centralized code collaboration platforms exist today because of the efforts of a broad community of open source contributors all around the world. Members of the open-source community, including code contributors, users, documentation writers, marketers, designers, user support, and others, collaborate and contribute to collaboration platforms, assisting in the development of the platform ecosystem.

While there are ways to generate money while working in open source, the majority of these community members execute their obligations out of a sense of commitment to the community and a desire to continue learning and sharing their knowledge of the open-source project. Despite their critical role in the development of open-source projects and the platform ecosystem, they are frequently exploited and do not receive the proper acknowledgement and appreciation for their efforts. This, combined with the enormous amount of work they perform and the stress they face, has caused them to burn out and stop contributing to open source projects. It’s difficult to maintain open-source projects when there aren’t enough similarly driven people to support and share the labour.

Gitopia is attempting to correct the lack of adequate open-source incentivization. The Gitopia ecosystem is built around community, and the platform is designed to encourage open-source contributions. Gitopia is a community-driven platform, and all Gitopia ecosystem members have the ability to shape and grow the platform for the benefit of the decentralized and open source community, not for the benefit of a few corporations.
Gitopia provides one-of-a-kind rewards for every contribution made by its ecosystem’s players. These incentives are properly aligned to incentivize contributors and help fuel open-source software innovation and growth on the Gitopia platform while assuring the ecosystem’s smooth and efficient operation.

Technical Differences

Censorship

Monopoly thrives on centralized platforms, making censorship simple. As a result, GitHub’s flaw is stakeholders’ power to restrict whatever they choose, to the cost of developers. Meanwhile, On Gitopia, no central authority has the authority to shut down any repository. Rather, the community determines content policies and is in charge of platform moderation. In Gitopia, all platform-related decisions will be made transparently with the community’s input. Gitopia will be governed and secured by a decentralized network of validators and stakers. In Gitopia, there will be no central authority. They can cast votes on suggestions and help define Gitopia’s future.

No Product Growth Incentive

GitHub, on the other hand, has a monopoly on open source code collaboration. There is no incentive system in place to match developers with product growth. While on Gitopia Users will be Gitopia’s shareholders, and their growth will be promoted.

Security

If the security of source code repositories on centralized platforms is breached, they are vulnerable to illegal access and change. Malicious actors can change the contents of git repositories to contain commits that damage user. This is readily fixed in blockchain because all blockchain edits must be signed by the repository owner or members with access to that repository. Gitopia’s repositories will be protected by public-key encryption, making them impenetrable to unwanted access and hacking.

Single Point of Failure (SPF)

This is a term used to describe a situation where there is a single point of failure when all of your code is stored on a centralized platform. That means that if they experience a catastrophic occurrence (such as being hacked or having data leaked), they will be compensated. All of your code could be lost if they go bankrupt or announce that they’re going down. Because Gitopia uses a decentralized network, there will be no service disruptions. Gitopia’s decentralized network will deliver great availability and stability.

Incentivization for Open Source

Even though Open Source software is the backbone of practically all software, it is incentivized through sponsorship or intentional donations. Moreover. Because all cryptocurrency-based decentralized networks are open source, incentivizing them is a no-brainer. Should not be reliant on public donations, but rather should be integrated into the decentralized network’s economic framework. The Gitopia workflow will include open-source incentivization. It will be designed to encourage developers to actively participate in open-source projects.

Transparency and Openness

Currently, the most popular code hosting and collaboration services, such as GitHub, are not open source. They don’t care about being open about how they use our information or how particular functionalities are implemented. We use these goods without understanding how they work or what impact they have on our privacy and other elements of our lives. Owners of services can change the terms and behaviour of their products at any time without alerting users. But on the other hand, Gitopia’s source code will be open-source, and other developers will be able to analyze its workflows.
